LAFKOS, HORTO AND MILINA
Start in Lafkos, a village 300 meters above sea level, high on the hill above the Pagasitic Gulf and Valtoudi Bay. There is a large shaded square to sit and enjoy a coffee or delicious ice cream, and a church, museum and some shops to explore. Lafkos is a pedestrian-only village. You can leave your car by the church and go and explore on foot. The narrow cobbled paths meander throughout the village, and an old cobbled footway leads down to Milina. There is a newly installed cash point in the platia, one of only two on the peninsula!
From Lafkos, head north following the tarmac road or monopati along the hilltops and across the heathland to Metochi. The westerly views over the Pagasitic Gulf are outstanding. |

The village of Metochi is very small. There is a small platia with a taverna, a pretty church, and a cafe. Try the fresh water from the mountain spring opposite the cafe.
Heading on from Metochi, either take the tarmac road down through the olive groves to Horto, or follow one of the donkey tracks down through the woods.
Horto is a small, peaceful seaside village with a choice of tavernas and bars to relax in. It has an open air theatre which puts on concerts and shows throughout the summer. Just north of the village there are two great beach bars, the Iris and the Casablanca. The beach here is a lovely place to relax and swim.
Head south from Horto, following the tarmac road or monopati to Milina.

Milina is the main tourist and beach centre of Pelion. It has many shops, restaurants and bars lining the water front, and the back streets lead you into sleepy lanes with traditional stone cottages and gardens abundant with kiwi, grape, fig, orange and lemon trees.
The wild dolphins come to feed in the calm morning waters, replaced later in the day by sailing boats enjoying the afternoon breeze. The evenings are for dinner by the shore, where the westerly view provides you with magnificent and spectacular sunsets while you dine.
