17th FULL MOON FUN REGATTA, Valtoudi Bay, Pelion, September 2011! A great yacht race was held on the full moon this year! There was much merriment, so much so, in fact, that the lead sailors were too merry to remember who won! So, a second Regatta will be held to find the winner!
Valtoudi Bay hold an annual Fun Regatta. Yacht, dinghy, and catamaran sailors, kayakers and windsurfers all race together. The race is usually around 2 to 4 hours long, dependent on the strength of the wind. It is a light-hearted affair, and beginners and experts all join in together. The rules are to relax and have a good day together on the water. Racers are as proud to come last as they are to come first! Regatta Day is enormous fun and is always followed by a celebration beach party. This year it will be held in mid September.

Dinghy Race
The small dinghy race circumnavigates the island of Alatas including the rocks at Petraki. Starting at the Sunsail yacht marina, the dinghies head down the channel towards Milina, turning west at the end of Alatas to Petraki where they circle the rocks, then head east, turning south into the far channel to complete the circuit. Depending on the wind the race can take two to three hours. If wind conditions are too strong the race route will be altered according to local conditions.
Kayak Race 2009 results! The kayaks put on a fantastic race and got around Alatas in record time. 50 minutes is now our official Pelion record! It will be hard to beat, and is still holding! The kayak race circumnavigates the island of Alatas. Starting at the Sunsail yacht marina, the kayaks head down the channel towards Milina, turning west at the end of Alatas, then south into the far channel to complete the circuit. Depending on the wind the race can take two to three hours. If wind conditions are too strong the kayaks race to the Milina jetty and back, staying in the shelter of the Milina channel.
Windsurfer Race The windsurfer race has been on the cards for many years, but has yet to be raced. If there are enough wind surfers keen to do it, the race will be staged! The route will be decided on the day according to local wind conditions and the abilities of the wind surfers!
2009 Results! Pelion Sail and Cycle Wins Again!
1st and 2nd prize in the Small Dinghy Class with our Toppers. First place was won by our youngest racer, Andreas, who was competing against adults. He is a local village boy, we trained him to sail, and we are very proud of him! His brother took second place. Our Topaz Duo came in last of our fleet this year, but not last in the race! It was sailied by a father and son team, who had never sailed it before, and were slowed down by a great many capsizes!
Regatta photos...
Join the fun with a yacht, dinghy, kayak, or windsurfer! Yachts, dinghies, catamarans, windsurfers and kayaks all compete together. There are several races planned for 2010. We will be holding dinghy and kayak races around Alatas Island, around Petraki, and to Milina jetty and back.
Be sure to book your dinghy, kayak or windsurfer in advance if you want to join in.
Great for all the family!

We are very proud of how our Pelion Sail and Cycle dinghies performed in the 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 Regattas! In 2006 the Duo won 1st prize, one of our Unos came 2nd, and two Toppers came in 5th and 6th. In 2007 an Uno took first prize, and the Duo 2nd. In 2008 the Duo was back in first position, but conceded to give the Unos a chance, which came in 2nd and 3rd, and the Toppers close behind. In 2009 two Toppers came in first and second, beating the Unos and the Duo!

Safety boats are on hand, and there is usually a cocktail boat should you require refreshment during the race! (Not ideal on small dinghies!)
Live music, fabulous atmosphere! There will be music on the beach in the evening. The beach party usually lasts well into the night, but has been known to last for several days!
The Regatta is organised entirely by the locals in the bay. There is a small entry fee, around €10, for participating in the race. The beach party is free, but donations in the hat are welcome, and help to keep the event running.
