TRAVEL AGENTS
TRAVEL AGENTS
Pelion is not well known outside Greece. The lack of mass tourist facilities means that few charter companies service the area. This makes the travel options to Pelion more limited, but makes it wonderfully unspoiled once you get here.

INDEPENDENT TRAVEL
You can fly to Volos, Thessaloniki, Skiathos or Athens airports. There are many cheap flight deals to Athens and Thessaloniki, but they are 4.5 and 3.5 hours drive away from South Pelion. If you want to hire a car, Pelion Rent will collect you from Thessaloniki Airport and chauffeur you to your destination for a small extra charge, a fantastic deal!

A few charter companies fly to Volos and Skiathos airports, but they charge quite a lot for flight only tickets, so shop around. The charter companies release their tickets at cheap prices on a last minute basis, if you can take the risk to wait. Skiathos has no re-fuelling facilities, so flights tend to land at Skiathos, then take off and land in Volos for re-fuelling.

There are no car hire facilities at Volos Airport, so arrange car hire or taxi in advance.

From Skiathos you can take a passenger ferry to Volos port, catch the Africana afternoon ferry to Platania, or take a water taxi to Katigiorgis. Taxi cabs are available from outside Skiathos Airport to Skiathos port for the Volos ferry and Africana boat, or Agios Eleni beach where the water taxi can collect you. Everyone in Skiathos speaks English, so you will be able to ask for directions and information locally.

Zaki, the water taxi man, also speaks English. It is best to pre-warn the water taxi that you are coming the day before, but to tell them that you will ring them once the plane has landed to arrange for collection. The water taxi will charge a huge surcharge if they have to wait for a delayed plane. Expect to pay about €60 for the journey, and confirm this price when you book. Occasionally you will find that airport cabs will be reluctant to take you to Agios Eleni because they are holding out for Skiathos Town fares. Once the initial rush dies down you can always get a cab. The journey from the airport to the beach takes about 20 minutes.

If you book your flight with a charter company that services Pelion there will be a boat transfer provided, but make sure it is included with your flight.

PACKAGE DEALS
Kosmar Holidays and Milina Holidays do very cheap all-in packages and transfer you to the area, so check them out. Tim and Afrulli Smart at Houses of Pelion can arrange your flight, transfers, and accommodation, so if you want a personal touch then contact them.
