PLATANIAS, THE SOUTH COAST, A BOAT TRIP TO THE ISLANDS
From Lafkos, follow the road over the hilltops, through the olive groves and orchards to the south coast port and fishing village of Platanias.

The village has a bakery, mini-markets, and a selection of seafront tavernas offering fresh fish and local dishes. There are two beaches to explore, the main beach of Platanias and the delightful and photogenic wide sandy beach of Mikro.

From Platanias you can catch a hydrofoil connection to the island of Skiathos, a bustling tourist resort offering lively town life and plenty of beaches.
There are also connections to the islands of Skopelos and Evia if you prefer peace and quiet. The hydrofoil also connects to Volos, the capital of the Pelion Peninsula. Here you will find everything you would expect from a busy working centre - except a MacDonalds.
During the summer months there is also a small tourist boat, the Africana, that takes a day trip to Skiathos and the neighbouring islands. It stops at both Platanias and Katagiorgis. You may get the added treat of dolphins swimming with the boat!
